Session Descriptions

Tuesday, April 16, 2024

Kickoff Keynote: “Let There Be Cake: Celebrating Authentic Leadership in a Messy World” - Valerie Garcia

How do you make your emotions and struggles your superpower and not your downfall? How do you stop shoving your messy life story in a drawer, and instead, use it to make you an even better leader? For ages, leaders have been told to check our personal lives at the door when it comes to work. Then we are expected to navigate tough conversations, complex emotions, and countless messy moments in order to accelerate our careers. How can we be authentic and effective leaders when we are leaving half of ourselves out of the equation? How can we be expected to lead others when we aren’t being honest about who we really are? We are humans with messy lives. We have how to learn to be human at work too, which means leading through the mess. When we lean into our emotions, understand the roles they play, and recognize their benefits, we will be more joyful and fulfilled leaders and humans. Authenticity isn’t some unattainable goal, it’s a practice that can be learned. There’s a path from fear to forward - and in this session, I’ll show you how to find the joy in the mess.

"Stand In Your Power And Bring It" is about how to be a more impactful and engaging speaker. In order to accomplish anything, and to do so successfully, everyone has the innate ability to activate and open the energy centers of their body. When physically standing in front of a room, it is important to be grounded, while remaining energetically open. When this happens, it is inevitable that the instructor commands attention of the room. The outcome fosters a more powerful and lasting impression on our students.

This session takes a look at the way adults learn and how we can better design content that motivates them. We’ll look at methods like humor, storytelling, and risk, and how including these in your sessions and events can increase attendance and adoption. You will be challenged to take a fresh new look at conventional topics and find creative ways to fill your events with these moments.
